Brett Higginbotham is appearing in his first season of professional baseball during 2013. The Grizzlies signed the submarine right-hander in late June. He pitched collegiately at NCAA Division I Stephen F. Austin University, and is from Hutto, Texas.

During his junior season Higginbotham appeared in 13 games and started six. He posted a 2-3 record with a 5.93 ERA in 30 and a third innings pitched. Opponents hit .275 against him. During the 2012 season he allowed 27 runs, 20 earned runs, struck out 21 and walked 11. As a senior Higginbotham was used mostly as a reliever going 4-3 with a 2.47 ERA in 43 and two-thirds pitched. He struck out 38, walked 13 and gave up 12 earned runs in 2013.
