Matt Sergey was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 45th round of the 2007 MLB Draft. He did not sign and instead attended Campbell University of the NCAA Division I’s Southern Conference. He had a successful career at CU. In 2012, during his senior season, he went 7-0 with a 3.38 ERA. He started in all 15 games he appeared in and pitched 90 and two-thirds innings. He surrendered 34 earned runs, 33 walks, 75 strikeouts and had a .242 opponents average.

Sergey began 2013 with the Southern Illinois Miners. He was used as a reliever with the Miners. Before being released he posted an 0-1 record, and a 4.32 ERA in 16 games. During those 16 games he threw 16 and two-thirds innings, struck out 24, walked eight and gave up 14 hits.
